Many times when I’ve written on women fulling their roles as homekeepers the circumstance of the being a single-mother comes up as if I’m naive to the fact. My family has a heart for the widows and fatherless, and feels that the Body of Christ is neglecting them greatly, and we’ve made a way for all women to be supported without having to go out in the world, sending their children to a government school, and get a job.

Matt and Jacque Dixon, with their daughters, Miss Amanda, 19, and Miss Jocelyn, 17, created Gleaning the Harvest after seeing the need of support for widows and fatherless families in the home school community. Though Gleaning the Harvest is a ministry founded by Matt & Jacque Dixon, it is designed as a ministry of the Body of Christ. Through Gleaning the Harvest, you are given the opportunity to fulfill what James calls “pure religionâ€.
James 1:27
“Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.â€
It is the belief at Gleaning the Harvest that it is the responsibility of the Body of Christ as much as they are able to help moms remain in the home being a Keeper at Home and home school mom. In searching Scripture, it is found that God’s people are to take up for the fatherless, the widow, and the stranger. As a family whose wife and mom is staying home teaching their children, following what they believe to be the LORD’s plan for women, the Dixons asked themselves why it should be different for a single mom and what they could do to lessen the burden.
To fulfill the blessing of Deuteronomy 24 to allow the strangers, widows and fatherless to glean in the fields after the harvest is the first part of their mission. Though this is not a real field or vineyard to glean in, at the Gleaning the Harvest site, you can open up your virtual harvest and offer gleanings to families in need through direct payment to the families.
The second part of the mission is to aid families in fulfilling Deuteronomy 6 within their families through home schooling. Being a homeschool family themselves, they understand the desire to keep children home to teach, lead and love in the nurture and admonition of the LORD, as we walk with them and talk with them.

Thank you for posting on this. I believe that this is a subject that is often ignored by today’s Christian. I am thankful that this is something that the churches in our denomination take very seriously. One of our dear friends lost her husband last January, and God has blessed her by giving her a church that is very supportive in many ways.
I find it interesting that in James 1:27 God says “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.”
