Miss Sharla linked a video tutorial and did this style, and after seeing her photo and watching the video, I had to try it. Amanda was kind enough to let me experiment use her as a model. This is an elegant updo inspired from Rose in the 1997 film Titanic. It really is a simple style, but the curling part did take some time.
For this style you will need: a curling-iron, bobby-pins, natural [egg]hairspray, a few clips, and a comb.
First you want to start by pinning up just over half of the hair, and then curl the entire bottom layer. [Note: If your hair is already curly, wavy, or has good volume you won't need to do the layer-curling steps.] When you’re done let down half of what it clipped up and repeat by curling that layer as well.

Depending on your hair and how thick it is you may need to repeat this again by letting down a layer and curling it. You will want to section off all the hair in the front of your head to about right in the middle, between your forehead and crown.

When you’re done curling the layers run your fingers through to separate the ringlets into waves. Then gently pull the hair into a ponytail, leaving some short hairs around the ears and nap of the neck.

Next take small sections of your hair in the ponytail and pin to your head in a bun-form. I probably did 10-12 sections on Amanda’s.

Take the longer curls and overlay them and pin them down to the bun and ‘swirl’ them to match the rest of the hair in the bun.
Let down the hair still clipped up and part. You can part down the middle or off to the side a bit, but you don’t want to have a ‘swipe’ with most of this hair all on one side and only a little on the other. If you have bangs, just curl the longer hairs. If you don’t have bangs section off just enough hair for 2-3 curls on each side.

Now you can curl the remaining hair [bangs]. If you’re bangs are as short or shorter than Amanda’s I would recommend pinning them back a bit after you’ve curled them. If you have bangs than come down to your nose-chin you can leave them more ‘hanging’. If your bangs are as long as the rest of your hair you can just pin back a bit to hang down on the sides. When you’re down with the bangs, take a smaller curling-iron and get those little hairs you left hanging.

After that you’re pretty much done. You can spray it a little bit to hold everything in place and add any embellishments that compliment your outfit. I added a small clip to Amanda’s, near the front, but you could do brooches, clips, or ribbons (around the front or over the bun).

I thought not only was this a dahling style, but Amanda especially looked lovely in it. I thought it suited her very well. Since I know you’re all wanting to try this now, I want to challenge you to join in with us this month by trying the style yourself and posting photos! You can just to the finished work if you like.

[...] her, she’d help me get some pics of a dressing I’m selling. haha. So I let her do a Titanic Updo on me… what do y’all think? I think it looks really awesome, if I say so myself. It [...]
OH, how lovely! I wasn’t sure how it would turn out in the beginning (it looked pretty funny and I thought you were going to leave it with those big curls hanging down and the rest up! Lol!). ;) Yes, Amanda you truly are a lovely young woman, inside AND out! :D And not just because Amanda did you hair either. :) That hairstyle looks gorgeous on you dear! :D It’s a shame you can’t wear your hair that way all the time. I guess that’s one of the reasons it took soooo long for ladies to dress in that time period huh? ;) I’ll have to let Jessica play with my hair sometimes with this style. :) Except, my hair is shoulder length…do you think it would still work? Or do you need long hair?
Thank you for sharing with us Jocelyn and thank you Amanda for being such a sweet and lovely model! :D
Blessings and Hugs!

you could probably do it. The girl who did video tutorial we watched for this style had about the same length of hair as yours. :)

I think I have too much hair for that hair-do, but it is very pretty!
I also wear a headcovering, so that would prevent me doing it too–I wear buns, braids, and also wear it down, but nothing else much.

I don’t think the headcovering would prevent you from doing this. You can still tie it around when you’re done. :)

Oh, I LOVE this hairstyle! =) How beautiful. You look so pretty in it, Miss Amanda! I wish I had long enough hair for that. :)
Oh–by the way: Is the movie “Titanic†a very good movie? I hadheard that it wasn’t…maybe I’m wrong. Just wondering! =)
