Sachets are nifty little bags that have been used for decades, maybe centuries, to scent your clothes, drawers, and even to carry on your persons. There endless ways to make the sachet pattern and endless scents you can fill them with – all dependent on your personal preference. They are also brilliant for stress-relief and medicinal purposes, like if you filled one with lavender as lavender is a soothing scent. These are also an ideal solution to using natural ‘perfumes’ rather than store-bought, which you can never be sure of it’s health disadvantages.
Gifts are a love-language and come in handy for so many occasions. Yehovah daily showers us with gifts and blessings as a sign of his faithfulness and love with each one made to bless each individual according to their need. Because sachets are so versatile they can also be made to fit that special individual, and I’m always on the look out for sweet, simple and inexpensive but useful ideas! Sachets are very simple to make and filled with potpourri, they help drawers and different locations have a wonderful aroma instead of smelling like mothballs!
Needed Items:
Two 5″x4″ pieces of fabric – You can use anything from your scrap pile (it can be calico, muslin, gingham, solid color etc) or use a cheesecloth, or even cut a design out of printed fabric. An idea for this would be to cut a reasonable size pumpkin out of a fall print fabric so your sachet would be pumpkins.
Six 8″ of matching thin ribbon
Matching Thread
Sewing Machine or Serger
Potpourri
Step 1: Take your two pieces of fabric and at the top of each (short side)Â fold 1/2 inch over and baste at 3/8 inch.

Step 2: With right sides together, sew or serge the two side seams and the bottom seam at a 3/8″ seam allowance. Flip to right side out and press.

Step 3: Fill the sachet about 3/4 the way full with the potpourri.

Step 4: Take the ribbon and tie the opening closed tightly. You can trim the ribbon to the length that you desire or tie in a bow or just knot it.

Be creative with your sachets. You can embroider on them, use fancy stitches, make the bag out of organdy and pink clip the edges, put an applique on the front, and you can make your own potpourri if you wish.
Herbs like lavender, wormwood and tansy have moth repellent properties so try incorporating some of these into your potpourri recipe.
Here’s one recipe: 2 parts of either Lavender, Wormwood, Cedar or Patchouli with 1 part of either Rosemary, Tansy, Cinnamon or Cloves. You can also use Rice and add about 15 -20 drops of essential oil. Lavender would smell delightful. I made up my own recipe and was quite pleased… 2 oranges pealed and dried, 4-5 cinnamon sticks broken up, 1 tablespoon cloves, 1 teaspoon allspice and about 20 drops of orange essential oil. This made a delicious “citrus” scent!
