I already know what you’re thinking. But stop… and please, pardon the pun?

Ambiguity is often a mind-boggling tool, however, this time, it carries no cross-reference. The truth is, I really am feelin’ feminine.

There are times in my life where I just want to stop, take a deep breath, let it out, know that Yahweh’s goodness is real and celebrate it with a fervent heart.

A while ago, I was participating in a street outreach, doing ministry work in Durban’s notorious red-light area. The organisation I worked for ran a rehabilitation program for girls and women on the street. A typical outreach evening would begin with prayer, which would follow with a long and sometimes tiresome walk through the sinful, stench-filled streets with pavements lined with precious souls that longed for some kind of genuine truth.

Halfway through the walk, we would stop by at Steers for ice cream cones, which meant to be somewhat of a refresher for the walk back. One particular evening, right after we had our ice cream, we headed back to the road. Getting my sense of direction, me and my ministry partners brushed past four young boys, who, obviously stunned, gawked back in disbelief.

What?? Did I just hear that correctly? Or are my ears deceiving me?

“Oh goodness, look how these ladies are dressed!!”

Oh wow… the sheer contentment and satisfaction that flowed through my veins. All my worries, all my fear and my slight sense of shame and guilt faded away. I could be feminine, and not be afraid. I can be proud with Yeshua on my side. I can feel feminine without any pressure to be feministic.

Oh, if I could just shout it out to the world, from every rooftop. Sadly, I can’t, but joyfully I can share it with a few hearts here, who will share it with a few other hearts elsewhere and so the series will continue. The wonder is for us to take and share and not keep to ourselves.

Will you join me, and feel feminine, for the joy of everyone to share?

OH, how wonderful Salome’! :D How exciting! :) That is so good to hear! I too want to dress feminine, without being a feminist or being legalistic. It’s tough sometimes. ;) The girls in our family have had a few comments similar to this one. It always brings such joy to our hearts to feel like we are being different in a world with so much “sameness”. :) And when they see our characters, sometimes I think they can see the love of Messiah shining in us (not by our doing of course). :) That makes me so happy that I want to sing! :D I pray that you will be able to continue to be strong and shine God’s light there! :D

    Love and Hugs!

  2. Wonderful article, Miss Salome! I enjoyed reading this very much. :-D
How wonderful it feels to stand up, and for that matter, stand out! When we obey the Lord, He will surely bless us. :-)

whats great! Yes I have gotten similar responses from men and women alike who say wow you are dressed so different. I have gotten weird stares and smiles. Its great to rejoice in what the Lord has done by changing me inside and now I can show that change on the outside as well.

  4. Completely! :-) When, some time ago, I quit wearing jeans, shorts, and anything other than skirts and dresses, two boys I knew found this rather questionable and outright strange. For all of my life before then I hardly wore dresses and skirts!
I know that I do have a streak of tomboyishness in me, and sometimes that overrules my choices in dressing.. I do dress less femininely sometimes than I do other times. But I have to remind myself of what the Scripture says about women not wearing that which pertains to men.

    Your sister in Christ,
    Leah Kathryn
