To Edify… Or Not: April Showers – It’s Seasonal
Autumn, Winter, Spring, Summer – Seasons – They are favourable events. They bring about change which germinate seeds of hope for something better.
In his book “Calling All Women”, William J May touches base with the seasons in our lives, particularly the days we spend in “April”. April weather is uncertain weather, where sunshine and rain showers chase each other so closely – you never know what the next day will bring.
April, April, laugh thy girlish laughter,
Then, the moment after, weep they girlish tears.
~ William Watson
Life brings more rapid and more violent changes to some of us than it does to others.
But thankfully, April doesn’t last forever. ‘A windy March and a rainy April make a beautiful May’.
I’m aware that it’s not April at the moment, but living in Africa, I experience switched seasons as opposed to those of you in the Northern Hemisphere. September in South Africa is like April in the north. It’s the first month of Spring, but our hopes and expectations of bright, cheerful and blossomy days are shattered and dampened with the last bit of August winds, cold and rain.
However, it brings about a beautiful October, full of early summer warmth and sunshine.
Being in my “April Showers” season, it reminded me of this concept.
Life is like the seasons of nature, a cycle of one thing that prepares for the next. Seeds fall, the wind picks them up and disperses them, the rain falls to enrich the soil and when summer comes around, the warmth further germinates growth in the seeds until they become beautiful plants, a visible work of Yahweh’s creation.
The seasons in our life spring forth edification. Yehovah uses the trials and difficulties of April to mould us into arts of beautiful clay, empty and usable vessels in His Kingdom, and to edify our personalities and characters to fit those which He has prescribed for our lives.
As William J. May put it:
“The fickle April weather is fashioning something sure and abiding. For, once more, life is like an April day. The sunshine and the shower are being woven into the fabric of the woman that is to be. There will be beauty of soul which could never have been yours but for those April days when the rain chased the sunshine from your life… It takes April weather to fashion a rose, to fill a cornfield, to make a life.”
Therefore, when April comes, or September for that matter, and you wish it would disappear, look ahead to the sunbeams of Summer. The Great Summer, who’s sun shines away all doubt, fear and tears, and turns our mourning into dancing.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Yehovah gives us each these seasons in due time to shape us into the women he will call to do his will and we must see each season, especially the April seasons, as a blessing in disguise. From the day we were born Yehovah, as the ultimate artist, has had pencil in hand and paper laid out ready to sketch us into his masterpiece.

My favourite piece (that I saw) was the portrait in the header, but I’m assuming you mean one of the ones available so the horse princess one, although it was hard to choose.
