Heirloom Pillow Cases

I thought that this week I would share a couple pictures of my heirloom pillow cases that I have in my hope chest, and some I even am using now. Making your own is easy if you know how to embroider or sew. They don’t have to be elaborate, just simple little embellishments to make some oridinary into some extrordinary for generations to treasure. ***editor’s note: a few years ago as gifts a friend took plain white pillow cases and embroidered the name-letter for each family member. Something so small but something I love and think dearly of!***

This is a pillow case I hand embroidered about three or four years ago, and have made some more for friends as a gift. These are great, personal ideas for birthdays and other occasions. It was very simple and easy to make, and will after a few generations become it’s own heirloom! I made a pink one as well!

My Grandmother, who taught me how to sew, made this pillow-case  for me when I was about 7 or 8 years old and I still use it. Because it’s from grammy, of course, it is very special, but I might retire it and put it in my hope chest soon to preserve.

This one, which was my great grandmothers, was in pretty bad shape as it was turning yellow from age, but thanks to my mom’s special cleaning mixture, I was able to turn it from terrible to fabulous! I have two of these.

Oooh, those are so pretty! Your stitching is so neat! Lovely work!

I made a pillow case from this kit (http://www.visionforum.com/sea.....ctid=47893) a few years back for a more elaborate pillow case. It turned out really well and I had never tried ribbon embroidery before! The kit seems expensive, but you can reuse the pattern to make more lovely pillow cases.

My Mother actually ribbon embroiders. Have you ever heard of that? She made a set of pillowcases for a girl we know, for her 17th birthday. Ribbons add such a delicate, feminine, beautiful look to it! My Grandmother taught me to embroider, and, although I’d like to do it more often, I can’t seem to get all the needles and accessories out and keep them out long enough! :) Yours are lovely, though.
